Thank you for trying the SEGA/Hershey's CD-ROM Sampler from SEGA Entertainment. This disc has been created to allow you to get a taste of some of our newest games. For additional help and information, look check out our web site at: "http://www.sega.com/segapc" -------------------------------------------------------------------- <*** Troubleshooting - Read if the program is not working ***> ***************** For Windows 95 Users ************************ To install any of the games, you should run the "setup95" program from the root directory of the CD. The first time you run this program, it will install one file (mfc30d.dll) to the "\windows\system" directory on your hard disk. If your "\windows\system" directory is not "c:\windows\system", you will need to copy mfc30d.dll from the root directory on your cd-rom drive (usally "d:\") to the windows system directory yourself (i.e. if your windows directory is "c:\win95" - your windows system directory would be "c:\win95\system"). If you are running Windows 95, you will want to run the setup95.exe. If you are having trouble running Sonic Collection or Sonic CD, you might want to check that you have the latest Direct X drivers loaded by running DXSETUP. If any of your drivers are not marked as "Certified", you will want to update your drivers with the latest Direct X compatible drivers from your hardware manufacturer's web site or from www.drivershq.com. Several brands of video cards are known for requiring special Direct X video driver: ATI: www.atitech.com Chips and Technology: www.chips.com Diamond Multimedia: www.diamondmm.com Matrox: www.matrox.com Number 9 (#9) www.nine.com Silicon Integrated Systems (SIS): www.sis.com.tw Simply the Best (STB): www.stb.com Trident: www.tridentmicro.com Tseng Labs: www.tseng.com Certain brands of sound cards also need special Direct X drivers: Aztech Labs: www.aztechca.com Creative Labs (Sound Blaster AWE): www.soundblaster.com Crystal Semiconductor: www.crystal.com MWAVE: http://watson.mbb.sfu.ca/new.html OPTi: www.opti.com There are additional cards that are not listed, but these are the most prevalent that have come to our attention. --------------------------------------------------------------------- You will have the following options once you run the menu program: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Game Menu: Play Demos -> Choose from the following Demos: ->Garfield - Choose this to install and/or play Garfield. ->Sonic CD - Choose this to install and/or play Sonic CD. ->Sonic's Schoolhouse - Choose this to install and/or play Sonic SH. ->Sonic and Knuckles Collection - Choose this to install and/or play Sonic and Knuckles Collection. ->Other available titles - See a list of other titles from SEGA Entertainment. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Help Menu: ->About the Sampler Disc - Get information about those who brought you this Sampler CD. ->www.sega.com/segapc - Don't forget to check our web site. -------------------------------------------------------------------- To increase game performance try the following techniques: Close all other applications before running any of the demos. Make sure that screen savers and other programs are not running in the background. Each program runs best in 256 colors and 640X480 resolution. To make sure that you are running in this color depth and resolution, right mouse click on the desktop, choose "Properties", choose "Settings", and then configure your display appropriately. Some systems play better in full screen than others. To toggle between full screen and window mode, press F4 (ESCAPE for Garfield). -------------------------------------------------------------------- **************** For Windows 3.X or WFW Users ***************** If you are using Windows 3.1 or 3.11 or Windows for Workgroups, there are two main ways to install the Demos for Windows 3.X: 1) Under Windows 3.X, go to the file menu and choose Run, To install Garfield: Type D:\garfield\setup.exe To install Sonic's SH Type D:\install\setup16.exe (These are both assuming your CD-ROM drive is letter D) 2) Exit out of Windows - This will put you back to DOS.
